It is a pleasure to write the Foreword for the fourteenth edition of Mayes’ Midwifery. The text has
been further revised to bring the contents up to date and to ensure that Mayes’ Midwifery retains
its place as a key midwifery text for student midwives and qualified midwives. The text is written
by an even more diverse range of authors than contributed to past editions and each chapter is
supported by a list of references that allows further in-depth study of any one of the subjects covered.
The reader cannot but be impressed by the number of midwifery researchers who now contribute
to the text alongside researchers from other related disciplines.
