Although numerous books about topics in otorhinolaryngology–head and neck
surgery have been published over the years, few, if any at all, directly address
clinical applications of computer-based technologies. Of course, some texts discuss
computers, but the number of references is small and the references themselves
are typically indirect and inconsequential. In light of the enormous impact
of computers on medical care (as well as communications, manufacturing, entertainment,
etc.), this deficiency seems surprising.
