This book is divided into two main sections: (I) the basic principles of assembling and operating a public health entomology program, and (II) a brief overview of the main public health pests. The frst section is particularly useful in that it provides practical advice on how to set up a public health entomology program from scratch and includes chapters on operational research, funding opportunities, and (to my delight) where to go for help. To my knowledge, there is no such information available anywhere. In addition, there are chapters on the history of public health and entomology, disaster vector control, and vector-borne disease surveillance. One of the more interesting chapters, “Regulatory and Political Challenges,” is sure to evoke much thought and discussion among health department personnel nationwide, as they regularly deal with such issues.
